Man allegedly forced to marry aunt after brutal assault in Bihar's Supaul district

A 24-year-old man was violently assaulted and allegedly forced to marry his aunt in Bihar’s Supaul district on July 2, after being accused of having an affair with her.

The victim, Mithlesh Kumar Mukhiya, was reportedly abducted and taken to a house belonging to his uncle, Shivchandra Mukhiya, in Jeevchhapur, Ward No. 8, under the jurisdiction of Bhimpur police station.

In a complaint filed by Mithlesh’s father, Ramchandra Mukhiya, it was alleged that his son was beaten with rods by a group of men for his suspected relationship with Rita Devi, Shivchandra’s wife, with whom he has a four-year-old child.


A viral video from the incident shows Mithlesh being mercilessly thrashed. Later, Rita was also brought to the scene and assaulted by villagers. According to the complaint, Mithlesh was then forced to apply vermillion (sindoor) on Rita’s forehead, symbolically marrying her. When his parents tried to intervene, they were also attacked.

Ramchandra reported that his son sustained severe injuries to his back, neck, and hands. The police were only alerted after a villager contacted them, prompting officers to arrive at the scene, causing the accused to flee.

The individuals named in the assault include Raja Kumar, Vikas Mukhiya, Shivchandra Mukhiya, Suraj Mukhiya, Pradeep Thakur, Suresh Mukhiya, Rahul Kumar, and Sajan Sahni, all residents of Jeevchhapur and Belaganj.

Bhimpur SHO Mithlesh Pandey confirmed that an FIR has been registered and a search is underway to locate the accused. He also stated that Mithlesh was first taken to Narpatganj Hospital and later referred to Araria Sadar Hospital due to the critical nature of his injuries.
