Mamata Banerjee niece death reason: Bristy Mukherjee, the 28-year-old niece of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, was found dead at her home in Birbhum, West Bengal, on Tuesday, with police treating the case as an apparent suicide. Mukherjee was found hanging inside a room on the second floor of her family home in Kusumba village, in the Rampurhat area, a senior police officer said. Her body was recovered in the afternoon.

Police have not yet established the circumstances that led to her death. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and investigators are questioning family members and carrying out other procedural inquiries.

Bristy Mukherjee death reason: What family members said

According to family members, Mukherjee had been dealing with depression for several years and was receiving treatment. They also said she was going through divorce proceedings at the time of her death.



Her family further claimed that Mukherjee had lost her job after the Supreme Court cancelled the recruitment of staff in government-aided schools in West Bengal amid a controversy over alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.

Police have not attributed her death to any particular reason so far. Investigators are expected to determine whether these circumstances had any connection with her death.

Who was Bristy Mukherjee?

Bristy Mukherjee was the daughter of Nihar Mukherjee, who is Mamata Banerjee's maternal cousin and a local TMC leader. Her death comes amid continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the case. Police said the post-mortem report and further inquiries will be important in establishing what happened before her death.

For now, authorities have described the case as a suspected suicide, while the investigation remains underway.
