Malamaal Weekly 2: Elvish Yadav joins movie cast alongside Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal in hit sequel

Bigg Boss OTT winner Elvish Yadav is set to make his Bollywood debut with the upcoming sequel to the 2006 comedy film Malamaal Weekly. Yadav announced his casting in Malamaal Weekly 2 in a post on X, revealing that he will share the screen with Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Raveena Tandon and Riteish Deshmukh, among others.

The actor and content creator expressed gratitude for the opportunity and said he hoped to learn from the established performers involved in the project.

Yadav shared his excitement about working with the cast in an X post, saying the opportunity to work alongside several established stars would allow him to learn from them.

He also expressed hope that his new experience in the film industry would make his supporters proud. In another post, Yadav reflected on his journey, saying he entered Bollywood without industry connections and credited his audience's support for helping him reach the big screen.

Yadav said the love he had received from his followers had played a significant role in his journey and asked them to continue supporting him.

What is Malamaal Weekly about?

Released in 2006, Malamaal Weekly featured Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Riteish Deshmukh, Rajpal Yadav and Asrani in prominent roles. The comedy was set in the fictional village of Laholi and centred on Lilaram, a lottery ticket seller played by Paresh Rawal.

The plot begins after a lottery ticket sold by Lilaram wins a major jackpot. After the ticket holder dies, Lilaram devises a plan to claim the prize himself. However, the villagers also become interested in the winnings, leading to a series of misunderstandings, rivalry and comic situations.

Malamaal Weekly's source and remakes

The original film was based on the 1998 Irish comedy Waking Ned. Its story was later adapted into several Indian languages.

The Telugu version, Bhagyalakshmi Bumper Draw, was released in 2006, followed by the Kannada film Dakota Picture in 2012 and the Malayalam film Aamayum Muyalum in 2014. Priyadarshan directed the Malayalam adaptation.

Malamaal Weekly was a commercial success following its 2006 release and became known for its ensemble cast and comedy-driven storyline.
