Mahindra Thar facelift: Company teases ahead of 22nd September launch, says ‘Coming soon to a rear-view mirror near you’
Mahindra has released two teasers of the upcoming Thar 3-door facelift ahead of its September 22 launch, highlighting the SUV’s grille and off-road capability. Reports suggest the update could bring Roxx-inspired exterior revisions, cabin upgrades...

The first teaser carries the message, “An icon, now more iconic”, and shows an extremely close-up view of the Thar’s front grille. The image reveals a rugged mesh-style design with Mahindra lettering placed above it. The tight framing leaves out the headlamps and complete bumper, indicating that more of the facelift’s exterior could be revealed closer to the launch.
The second teaser focuses on the SUV’s off-road capability. It shows the Thar negotiating muddy terrain, with its wheel, suspension components and underbody visible as mud splashes around the vehicle. The accompanying message, “Off-road adventure now gets muddier”, continues to highlight the SUV’s positioning as a lifestyle off-roader.
The teasers arrive just days before the updated three-door Thar is expected to be unveiled. Mahindra has sent out invitations for a launch and drive event in Jodhpur from September 22 to 24, with the event expected to centre on the updated SUV.

Thar facelift design changes reportedly expected
The upcoming model is expected to receive more substantial styling changes than the update introduced in 2025. Earlier test mules have indicated revisions to the front fascia, grille, lighting elements and alloy wheels, although Mahindra has not yet disclosed the complete design.Reports suggest that the facelift could borrow several styling cues from the larger Thar Roxx. These reportedly include circular projector LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lights, along with a redesigned grille and bumper. The rear could also feature revised LED tail lamps and a redesigned bumper.
Despite these changes, reports suggest that the familiar boxy profile and three-door proportions will remain part of the updated Thar’s design.
Thar facelift cabin upgrades
The interior could also receive a series of changes. Reports suggest that the facelift may get a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster alongside the existing 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.Other expected additions reportedly include automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera and an upgraded audio system. These details have not been officially confirmed by Mahindra and should therefore be treated as reported expectations ahead of the launch.
There has also been speculation about Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems. However, Mahindra has not officially confirmed the feature, making it an expectation rather than a confirmed part of the Thar facelift’s equipment list.

Thar facelift engine options
On the mechanical front, reports suggest that Mahindra is unlikely to make major changes to the Thar’s existing powertrain lineup. The facelift is expected to continue with the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engines, depending on the variant.Manual and automatic transmission options are also expected to continue, along with rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations depending on the engine and variant.
With the launch only days away, Mahindra is expected to reveal the complete exterior, interior, equipment list, variants and pricing of the updated three-door Thar on September 22. Until then, the latest teasers and test-mule sightings offer the clearest indications of what could change with the facelift.
