Maharashtra woman lost Rs 24,000 in 2024, the bus conductor kept searching for the next two years to return her money

A 75-year-old woman who had lost Rs 24,000 on a bus in Maharashtra was reunited with her money two years later after she unexpectedly encountered the same conductor who had found and preserved the cash, according to an India Today report.

Kasabai Gaikwad had been travelling with her ailing husband in April 2024 when she misplaced the money during their journey. She had little hope of recovering her savings until an unexpected meeting with conductor Raju brought the long-lost cash back to her.

Conductor finds cash after passengers leave

After the bus completed its journey and all passengers had disembarked at Malegaon bus stand, Raju and the driver took the vehicle to the depot.

During his routine inspection of the seats for belongings left behind, Raju discovered a small bag containing Rs 24,000. A medical prescription inside the bag carried the name Kasabai Gaikwad.

Raju waited at the bus station for nearly an hour, hoping the passenger would return. He also alerted the enquiry counter and asked staff to direct anyone searching for the money to him.

However, nobody came forward to claim it.

More than a year passes without a claimant

The cash remained unclaimed for months. Raju also attempted to contact Kasabai using the phone number mentioned on the medical prescription but was unable to reach her.

More than a year passed before the two unexpectedly crossed paths.

Aadhaar verification leads to reunion

After two years, Raju was working on a bus when an elderly woman boarded and requested a ticket to Malegaon. Since passengers aged 75 and above are eligible for free bus travel, Raju asked her to show her Aadhaar card to verify her age.

He was surprised to see the name Kasabai Gaikwad on the document.

Raju spoke to her and established that she was the same woman who had lost Rs 24,000 on a bus more than a year earlier. He then took her to the bus depot and informed his senior officers.

Following verification, the Rs 24,000 was returned to Kasabai.

Woman thanks conductor

Kasabai, who had stopped expecting to recover her savings, was overjoyed after receiving the money back. She thanked Raju and gave him Rs 1,100 as a token of gratitude.
