According to the police, the student met the suspect in 2023 at her physiotherapy college near Satara Road. They became acquaintances and frequently discussed career opportunities in physiotherapy.
The suspect assured the victim that securing admission to a reputed institution would greatly benefit her career. Claiming to have strong ties with private colleges, he promised her a seat at a prestigious institution in Navi Mumbai.
Trusting his words, the student agreed and was asked to transfer money to his UPI account. Over a month, she made multiple payments, totalling ?5 lakh. However, despite receiving the money, the suspect failed to secure her admission.
Upon realising she had been deceived, the student approached the police. An investigation has been launched, and officials are working to trace the suspect. The police have urged students to verify admission processes through official sources to avoid falling victim to such scams.
