KDMC seizes house of ailing woman
Without even checking if anyone was inside, KDMC officials reportedly sealed the grill door of the apartment and pasted a notice. Residents attempted to alert them about the ailing tenant, Safina Patel, but their warnings were allegedly ignored, the report said. Safina Patel later woke up to find herself locked inside the house, raising serious concerns over the civic body’s enforcement practices. The issue came to light after the house owner informed KDMC officials, who rushed to the scene and broke the seal. Congress corporator Kanchan Kulkarni raised the matter in the KDMC general body on Wednesday, alleging that the civic body disproportionately targets poor residents for tax recovery while neglecting large industrial defaulters.
Kanchan Kulkarni also claimed that the house owner had an outstanding property tax of Rs 3 lakh, on which the civic body imposed nearly Rs 4 lakh in interest, bringing total dues to around Rs 7 lakh.
