Madhya Pradesh DIG advises schoolgirls on conceiving 'Ojaswi' babies during viral lecture

A Madhya Pradesh police officer's advice to schoolgirls on childbirth has gone viral. In Shahdol, Deputy Inspector General of Police Savita Sohane spoke to students in grades 10 through 12 on October 4. The event was part of a government program focused on the safety of girls. A video of Sohane's lecture went viral recently.

Sohane offered specific guidance on conception, saying, "Note this first point - don't conceive on Purnima. Bow down before the Sun and do salutation by offering water to bring forth 'ojaswi' offspring.” The DIG, who is unmarried, also spoke to students about the importance of planning for future generations, asking, "You will bring forth new childhood (new generation) on Earth. How are you going to go about it?"

Sohane told reporters she frequently speaks at schools as part of the "Mai Hoon Abhimanyu" program, an initiative aimed at creating a safe environment and promoting respect for girls. She explained her lecture was informed by her personal spiritual pursuits, including reading scriptures and listening to sermons. Regarding her comments on avoiding conception during a full moon, she noted its significance as a holy period in Hinduism.


Sohane, who taught at a government school before joining the police force 31 years ago, emphasized that her hour-long talk focused on respecting girls, particularly in light of crimes against women and children. She believes the circulated video clip lacks context.
