The first Lunar Eclipse of the year is set to occur today, 5th May and those interested in viewing would be able to witness it from different cities across India. The lunar eclipse, also known as Chandra Grahan will begin from 08:44pm and end by 1:01am. The total time duration for the Penumbral Lunar Eclipse will be 4 hours and 18 minutes.

What is a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse?

The lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon. The penumbral eclipse is more subtle and occurs when the Moon passes into the lighter outer region of the Earth's shadow.


Where can you view the lunar eclipse from?

The Penumbral Lunar Eclipse will be visible from all over India, and if the weather and sky is clear then it will be easy to watch this astronomical event without requiring any extra devices, but if the weather conditions are not optimal then people can view the phenomena through binoculars and telescope.

Asia, Australia, Russia, Central and Eastern Africa, Antarctica and parts of Europe will also be able to gaze upon the rare event.
