Lucknow shocker: Man murders in-laws after they refuse to send wife back home

In a shocking incident, a 42-year-old man, identified as Jagdeep Kumar, allegedly stabbed his father-in-law and mother-in-law to death for refusing to send his wife home in Lucknow on Wednesday evening, TOI reported.

The victims were identified as Anant Ram (73) and his wife Asha Devi (71). The accused was caught by the neighbours while trying to flee and was handed over to the police.

Kumar's wife, Poonam Devi, had been living with her parents since the last two years after a dispute. The couple had gotten married in 2015 and have two children.


Police said Kumar, who is currently unemployed, is originally from Rajasthan and currently residing in a rented house in Nishatganj area of the city.

DCP central Ashish Srivastava said the accused insisted that his wife return with him. However, her parents refused and a heated argument broke out. It was then that Kumar lost his temper, pulled out a knife from his bag and attacked Anant Ram. When Asha Devi tried to intervene, she too was stabbed. Poonam was also attacked when she tried to stop him but escaped with minor injuries.

The neighbours heard the screams and came to overpower Kumar.

Police recovered the blood-stained knife used in the crime. The elderly couple was rushed to Lokbandhu Hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.

A case of murder has been registered and Jagdeep is in police custody.
