Lucknow has become noisier that ever before. This was revealed in Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (IITR) noise monitoring report.
The noise pollution report by Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (IITR) was released on Saturday, revealing that during the post-monsoon period (September-October), Indira Nagar stood out as the loudest residential area in the city during the day, while Gomti Nagar took the nighttime title.

Noise levels in all parts of the city exceeded permissible limits, and there was an upward trend compared to the previous post-monsoon season.

Indiranagar had the highest daytime noise level, averaging 73.5 decibels (dB(A)), followed by Gomti Nagar (72.1 dB(A)), Vikas Nagar (68.8 dB(A)), and Aliganj (61.8 dB(A)). At night, Gomti Nagar registered the highest noise levels at 64.2 dB(A), followed by Aliganj (57.3 dB(A)), Vikas Nagar (55.7 dB(A)), and Indira Nagar (61.5 dB(A)).


The permissible noise limits during the day and night are 55 dB(A) and 45 dB(A), respectively.

In commercial areas during the daytime, Chowk was the noisiest at 80 decibels, followed by Alambagh (78 dB(A)), Charbagh (77 dB(A)), Aminabad (72 dB(A)), and Gomti Nagar (72.1 dB(A)).

During the night, Alambagh was the loudest with 74 dB(A) of noise recorded, followed by Aminabad (79.9 dB(A)), Charbagh (73.6 dB(A)), and Chowk (72.8 dB(A)).

The recorded noise levels during the day and night ranged from 51.9 to 88.6 dB(A) and 45.2 to 83.6 dB(A), respectively.

All average noise values significantly exceeded the national limits of 55 dB(A) during the day and 45 dB(A) at night.

In commercial and traffic areas, the daytime and nighttime noise levels ranged from 57.9 to 107.3 dB(A) and 52.8 to 90.1 dB(A), respectively.
