The ongoing US-Iran war has disrupted cooking gas supplies worldwide, causing shortages in India. With Iran nearly blocking the Strait of Hormuz, shipments of natural gas from Gulf nations like Qatar, the UAE, and Oman have been restricted, affecting the country’s LPG imports.

As a result, many Indian households are struggling to secure cooking gas cylinders. To ease this, Indane now allows customers to book LPG refills via WhatsApp, eliminating the need to call distributors or visit agencies. Users can send a simple message on WhatsApp to place their refill request and receive instant confirmation.

Cooking gas prices rise amid supply disruption

The shortage has also led to a rise in LPG prices across India, impacting both domestic and commercial cylinders. The price of a 14.2 kg domestic cylinder was increased by ₹60 last week, while a 19 kg commercial cylinder rose by ₹144 in major cities.

The price revisions come amid disruptions in LPG supply chains caused by the escalating conflict in West Asia involving the US, Israel, and Iran. The joint attack by the US and Israel on Iran, and Iran’s subsequent retaliation, has led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route through which India imports 85–90% of its LPG from West Asian nations including Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
