In the previous year, over 40,000 participants ran the 26.2 mile distance in the nation's capital, and this year's edition is expected to draw even more with an estimated 50,000 runners and a larger number of supporters. The race, which has been held in October since 2020, will take place in April for the first time since 2019. Amos Kipruto and Yalemzerf Yehualaw were the winners of the top-level races last year, while Sir Mo Farah is anticipated to compete in this year's London Marathon, as he has announced his intention to retire from competitive running after 2023.
The London Marathon 2023 is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 23, 2023, beginning at 9:30 AM BST. The race will continue all day, but runners who finish after 4:30 PM BST will not be awarded a medal. Kenenisa Bekele and Amos Kipruto are among the favorites to win. The BBC will broadcast the marathon live throughout the day, with highlights shown on BBC Two from 6 PM to 7 PM.
The race will begin in Greenwich, Southeast London, and proceed to the Cutty Sark and the Shard. After that, the runners will cross Tower Bridge, which is about halfway through the race. Canary Wharf will be the next stop, followed by Victoria Embankment and Westminster, where the London Eye is located. Finally, they will pass by Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament before turning onto The Mall, which is only a few meters away from Buckingham Palace, where the finish line is located.
