Lok Adalat 2026 Delhi
Delhi motorists with pending traffic challans will get a major chance for relief on January 10, when the capital hosts its first Lok Adalat of 2026. The special court will allow people to settle eligible traffic violations through waiver or reduced fines, often by paying a smaller amount. The Lok Adalat will be held across all Delhi district court complexes and is aimed at quick disposal of minor cases.

Delhi’s first Lok Adalat of 2026 on January 10

As per official information, the National Lok Adalat will take place on January 10, 2026, across all Delhi District Court Complexes. The session was earlier planned for December but was rescheduled. The Lok Adalat provides a platform to close long-pending traffic cases without lengthy court proceedings.

Online registration is mandatory

Motorists must register online to participate. Walk-in cases are generally not accepted. After registration, a token number and appointment letter are issued, mentioning the date, time, and court location for the hearing. Cases are taken up strictly in the order of token numbers.

The online link for token registration was activated on January 5, 2026, at 10 am.

Step-by-step guide to settle traffic challans

Step 1: Check pending challans
Vehicle owners should first check all unpaid challans on the Delhi Traffic Police website or the Parivahan portal using the vehicle registration number or challan number.

Step 4: Download token and appointment letter
After successful registration, applicants must download and print the token and appointment slip. These are mandatory for entry.

Step 6: Hearing and settlement
A Lok Adalat bench hears the case and decides whether the challan can be waived or the fine reduced.

Step 7: Payment and closure
If a settlement is reached, the revised amount must be paid the same day. A receipt is issued, and the challan is closed in the system.

Lok Adalat 2026 Hearing: Documents you must carry

Applicants are required to bring original documents along with photocopies. These include the vehicle registration certificate, driving licence, insurance papers, pollution certificate, challan copy, token, and appointment letter. No printing facility will be available at court complexes.

Lok Adalat traffic challans eligible for settlement

Minor traffic violations can be taken up in Lok Adalat. These include riding without a helmet or seat belt, overspeeding, jumping red lights, wrong parking, driving without a valid pollution certificate, ignoring traffic signs, missing number plates, and incorrectly issued challans. In limited cases, driving without a licence may also be considered.

Traffic challans not eligible for waiver

Serious offences are not considered. These include drunk driving, hit-and-run cases, deaths caused by negligent driving, driving by minors, illegal racing, vehicles involved in criminal activities, challans already pending in regular courts, and challans issued outside Delhi.

Delhi Courts where Lok Adalat will be held on January 10

The Lok Adalat will be conducted at all major Delhi district court complexes, including Patiala House, Karkardooma, Tis Hazari, Saket, Rohini, Dwarka, Rouse Avenue, and other district courts.

More than traffic cases

Apart from traffic matters, the National Lok Adalat will also hear other civil disputes such as family issues, property-related cases, and small pending matters. These cases are settled through mutual agreement under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

What makes Lok Adalat different

Unlike regular courts, Lok Adalats focus on quick settlement. Cases are often resolved in a single sitting, fines may be reduced or waived, and matters are closed on the same day. However, only eligible cases listed on official portals are considered, and advance online registration remains compulsory.
