Lok Adalat 2026 Delhi: A step-by-step guide to get rebate on challans
Step 1: Check pending traffic challansVehicle owners should first check for pending challans on the Delhi Traffic Police website or the Parivahan portal. By entering the vehicle registration number or challan number, all unpaid e-challans linked to the vehicle will appear. Only challans visible on these official platforms can be taken up.
Step 2: Confirm eligibility of challans
Not all challans qualify. Only minor and compoundable offences are considered. Serious violations such as drunk driving or hit-and-run cases are excluded and will not show up for Lok Adalat settlement.
Step 3: Register online for Lok Adalat
Eligible applicants must complete online registration in advance through the Delhi Traffic Police website or the DSLSA Lok Adalat registration page. Details must be filled in carefully. Walk-in cases are generally not accepted.
Step 4: Download token and appointment letter
After registration, a token number and appointment or confirmation slip will be generated. This document must be downloaded and printed, as it is mandatory for entry and case listing.
Step 5: Visit the assigned court on January 10
On the day of the Lok Adalat, applicants must go to the court complex mentioned in the appointment letter. Original documents such as vehicle registration certificate, driving licence, insurance papers, pollution certificate, and challan receipts must be carried.
A Lok Adalat bench, usually comprising a judicial officer and a legal services authority representative, will hear the case. Depending on the offence, the bench may reduce the fine or waive it fully.
Step 7: Pay the revised fine and collect receipt
If a settlement is reached, payment must be made the same day at the designated counter. An official receipt is issued, and the challan is marked as resolved in the system.

The focus stays firmly on minor offences that do not endanger life.More than traffic: Other disputes Lok Adalat will hear
The National Lok Adalat will also take up civil disputes beyond traffic matters. Family disputes, property disagreements, and other small pending cases can be settled. Judges hear both sides and pass orders to close cases under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.What makes this Lok Adalat different
Unlike regular court proceedings, the Lok Adalat focuses on settlement. Cases are taken up in a single sitting, fines may be reduced or even waived, and matters are closed on the same day. However, only eligible challans listed on official portals can be considered, and advance online registration is a must in most cases. The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
