Lion kills man who tried to steal cubs from zoo enclosure

A man was mauled to death by a lion in Ghana after he entered the lion's enclosure in an apparent attempt to steal lion cubs. The incident happened in Ghana's Accra Zoo.

According to reports, a middle-aged man, died on the spot inside the enclosure after the Lion's attack. As per the BBC report, the Ghana zoo authorities believe that the person was apparently trying to steal two rare white lion cubs. The cubs were born last year in November and have been a big attraction of the zoo since then.

The incident happened on Sunday afternoon when a security guards on patrol noticed that a middle-aged man had climbed over a tall mesh fence and entered the enclosure of a lion, a lioness and two cubs. The victim scaled a 10-foot fence before climbing over another 20-foot one to enter the enclosure.


"The intruder was attacked and injured by one of the lions. The adult lion pounced on the man as soon as it spotted him entering the enclosure," the state Forestry Commission said on Sunday, adding that the man had died from wounds he sustained in the attack.

"The lions have cubs so if you come too close they become aggressive as they may feel you are trying to take away their babies," another official said. "We ask the public to desist from doing anything like this," he added.
