Leolia Jeanjean's journey at the French Open 2022 comes to an end
French Open wildcard entry Leolia Jeanjean's run ended in Paris on Saturday in the third round after being defeated by Irinia-Camelia Begu of Romania 6-1, 6-4.

However, she became the first wild card in 34 years to reach the last 32, losing to former world number one Karolina Pliskova. Despite debuting on the main tour at 26 and beating a 31-year-old opponent 0-5 in the first set on Saturday, the former college US star lost the match 0-5. Begu survived three match points before she came back from 1-5 down to win the second game.
In a nutshell, the overview of the match started with the Begu's serve getting Jeanjean to 0-30. This glimmer of hope is met with a tumultuous noise, only Begu to smash his way to 15-30. Jeanjean then misses a baseline shot for a 30-30 tie. She scores a match point in the second game with a drop shot. Jeanjean overhits the ball down the line. Begu succeeded in stopping the French resistance but arrived too late to stop it.
It is enthralling to witness 63 rd rank Begu in the fourth round for the first time since 2016, who also admitted playing a close, deadlocked match. As of August 2016, Begu was ranked No. 22 globally in singles. She surpassed this ranking in WTA doubles two years later, gaining an exceptional order.
It came as a blessing to Begu to not have been defaulted in the second round when she annoyingly bounced the racquet into the crowd where it hit a child. It would be interesting to see her during the playoffs with either US 11th positioned Jessica Pegula for a quarter-finals place or 2021 semi-finalist Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia.
