The techie shared his situation titled, “My father asking me to leave India and offering 30 lakh.” He said several members of his extended family, including uncles, cousins and other relatives, are already settled abroad. He also said he has become frustrated with life in India and ultimately wants to settle overseas, but does not want to make the decision without weighing the financial and career implications.

Father offers Rs 30 lakh for overseas move
According to the techie, his father is encouraging him to move abroad because his brother is not interested in relocating. The father is willing to contribute Rs 30 lakh towards the move, while the techie would need to arrange the remaining amount himself. He said he owns access to three acres of land and is considering raising a loan against it to finance the rest of the expenses.
“As my brother is not interested, my father is asking me to move abroad. He is offering me Rs 30L, and I should arrange the rest of the money myself. I have 3 acres of land, so I’m thinking of taking a loan against it,” he wrote.
The prospect of borrowing additional money has added another consideration to his decision, particularly because he is still relatively early in his professional career.
Techie considering several countries
The backend developer has identified several possible destinations, including New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Ireland, the UK and Canada. He has also considered the US, although he described it as his last option.A master’s degree abroad is one route he is exploring. At the same time, he is unsure whether leaving India after just one year of professional experience would be the best decision.
He therefore turned to Reddit to ask whether he should begin preparing for the move now or continue working in India for another two years before applying abroad.
Reddit users urge him to research first
The post received mixed responses, with several Reddit users advising the techie to understand the practical realities of living and working overseas before committing his family’s money or taking on debt. One user suggested that he speak to relatives who are already settled abroad and learn about their jobs, immigration status and experiences.
“Before thinking about going, my minor suggestion: Ask your settled cousins and get to know about the situation in their companies, immigrant jobs and visa issues. Then take a call on whether to go or not,” the commenter wrote.
Another Reddit user suggested gaining more experience in India before pursuing higher education abroad.
“If your end goal is to eventually move abroad, work a few more years in India, but make sure you do meaningful work and not in some sweatshop. Then come to a good university, not just any random university. That will shape your future in a better way. The USA is still golden, but only for top talent,” the user said.
Reactions to the post
A commenter who said they live in Canada offered a more guarded assessment of moving there.“I live in Canada. If you can endure six months of snow and dark winters, you can choose this place. Also, job opportunities are fewer nowadays,” the user wrote.
The response highlighted both the adjustment involved in moving to Canada and the commenter’s concerns about employment opportunities.

User suggests waiting and building savings
Another Reddit user advised the techie to postpone the move until he had accumulated a larger financial cushion.“Maybe leave after you save 1 cr. And put it in FD for monthly income of around 50k per month until you figure out what you need to do and once you find a job then invest that money,” the commenter suggested.
The discussion has centred on whether the techie should take advantage of his father’s financial support now or first build more professional experience and savings before making a costly international move. The choice also involves deciding how much additional debt he is willing to take on and which overseas route could best fit his long-term goal of settling abroad.
