How does the lottery system work?

Admissions to Balvatika and Class 1 in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) are conducted through a computerized lottery system to ensure transparency and fairness. After the registration period closes, applications are categorized based on criteria such as RTE, service priority, and reserved quotas.

The lottery then randomly selects candidates within each category, and the results are published as provisional selection lists along with waiting lists. For higher classes (Class 2 onwards), admissions are conducted offline, depending on available vacancies, with separate lists released for each class. Admissions for Class 11 begin after the declaration of CBSE Class 10 results.

What happens after the lottery?

Once the lottery results are announced, parents of selected candidates must complete document verification and other admission formalities within the specified timeline. Required documents include:

  • Proof of age
  • Proof of residence
  • Service certificate (if applicable)
  • Caste certificate (for reserved categories)
  • Income certificate (for RTE applicants)
Failure to complete the process on time may result in the cancellation of the allotted seat, which is then offered to candidates on the waiting list in subsequent rounds.
