Zomato’s recent social media post encouraging customers to rate delivery partners has sparked yet another war of words with comedian Kunal Kamra. On Wednesday, Zomato wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Some people skip giving ratings to delivery partners, the same people get upset when their work does not get recognition.”

Kamra wasted no time in responding with a sharp retort, “Someone people skip giving minimum wage & social security same people get upset when they are sent to prison.”

His comment reignited discussions on gig worker wages, with social media users quickly taking sides. Some supported Zomato’s stance, while others backed Kamra’s argument about fair pay.

A Long-Running Feud

This isn’t the first time Kamra has clashed with Zomato and its CEO, Deepinder Goyal. Back in June 2024, when Zomato celebrated a Guinness World Record for conducting the “largest first aid lesson at a single venue,” Kamra challenged Goyal with a blunt question, “Can you declare the no of delivery partners you have with their average income & working hours over the last 3 months? No you can’t. But you can tell kgs of biryani ordered in one day. You’re such a hack bro.”

His critique underscored concerns about transparency regarding delivery partner earnings and working conditions.

Kamra’s Broader Criticism of Gig Platforms

Kamra has consistently criticised companies like Zomato and Blinkit for their treatment of gig workers. On New Year’s Eve 2025, he targeted Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa after the company celebrated record-breaking order numbers. Dhindsa boasted about Blinkit’s busiest night, listing popular purchases such as 1,22,356 packs of condoms and 45,531 bottles of water, cheekily asking, “Prep for after party?”

Kamra was unimpressed. He accused Blinkit of exploiting delivery workers and likened platform owners to “landlords without owning any land.” He also demanded transparency regarding delivery partner wages, saying, “While we enjoy the convenience of quick commerce, let’s not ignore the dark side.”

The Gig Economy Debate

Blinkit claims its delivery partners can earn up to ₹50,000 per month with incentives and benefits. Workers are paid weekly, with flexible shifts ranging from four to ten hours. Perks include ₹10 lakh in accidental and medical insurance, as well as a joining bonus of up to ₹4,000. However, critics argue that these figures don’t reflect real earnings after expenses and unpredictable order volumes.

Social Media Divided

Kamra’s latest jibe at Zomato triggered a flood of reactions online. Some supported his criticism, while others defended Zomato’s business model. A user wrote, “Underpay is offensive. No doubt. But are these gig workers bonded labour? Aren’t they getting paid more than what they would find elsewhere? The world isn’t just. Accept it.”

Another commented, “Some people skip doing comedy in a comedy show same people get upset when people abuse them.”

While some argued that companies like Zomato provide jobs to thousands, others insisted that minimum wage protections should apply to gig workers as well.

From Ola to Zomato: Kamra’s ‘Mission Mode’

Kamra’s recent criticism of Zomato comes on the heels of another high-profile dispute—this time with Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal. In October 2024, Kamra publicly challenged Ola Electric’s handling of EV scooter issues, tagging Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and the Department of Consumer Affairs to demand a probe.

With his latest comments on Zomato, one social media user quipped, “Ola Electric—Done. Now Zomato Turn. Bro on mission mode.”

As Kamra continues his campaign for better wages and working conditions for gig workers, companies like Zomato and Blinkit remain under public scrutiny. Whether these platforms address these concerns or stick to their existing structures remains to be seen.
