The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for Kolkata, forecasting a spell of unstable weather conditions over the city. According to the latest weather alert, Kolkata is likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, along with spells of light to moderate rainfall on Friday, March 20. The sudden weather activity may lead to reduced visibility, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and traffic disruptions.

The IMD has warned of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning & gusty winds (40-50 kmph). The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 32 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Kolkata weather tomorrow

Kolkata is bracing for severe weather, with the IMD forecasting rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds until March 21. An orange alert has been issued for Friday and Saturday, predicting maximum temperatures around 33°C and minimums at 22°C.

The met department predicted that the maximum temperature will stay around 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will fall to 22 degrees Celsius. The forecast for Kolkata indicates potential thunderstorms, with rainfall expected to intensify on March 20. The IMD's bulletin highlights that residents should prepare for gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kilometres per hour.

The rain in Kolkata is likely to intensify on Friday and Saturday and similar conditions are expected in Hooghly, where rainfall is likely to be more widespread, particularly till March 22. By Sunday, March 22, rainfall activity is likely to reduce significantly, with only isolated showers.

Purulia weather

Purulia is also likely to witness rain or thunderstorms with strong and gusty winds on Friday, March 20. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 34 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius. In North Bengal, thunderstorms are forecast to continue in the coming days. Districts such as Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar are likely to receive rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, with wind speeds ranging between 30 and 50 kmph.
