Kolkata is likely to get light to moderate rain on Tuesday, February 24, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), bringing relief from what feels like early summer. The IMD said rainfall is likely in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia, North and South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Midnapore and Jhargram. According to the IMD, Light to moderate rain is likely to occur today in some south Bengal districts, including Kolkata, after a gap of nearly three months.

Kolkata is likely to experience rainfall with thunderstorms today with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 30 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius, respectively. Light to moderate rain is also likely in the sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri on Monday and Tuesday.

Light rain in Kolkata

Kolkata and its adjoining districts last experienced rainfall in November and a few western districts like Purulia got some drizzle in early December, an IMD official told PTI today. “A depression-like system will likely trigger light to moderate rain across several districts. The weather office has confirmed that downpours are currently off the radar. Residents in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri should also keep their umbrellas handy. A separate Western Disturbance is expected to bring scattered showers to these hilly areas and the foothills,” an IMD official told the Indian Express.

“Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely to affect southern districts, including East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, South 24 Parganas, and Bankura, while light rain is expected in the northern hilly regions of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri. By Tuesday, this rain activity is forecast to extend to Kolkata, Howrah, and Hooghly,” said the officer.
