Another nor'wester hit the city on Monday night, bringing rain, lightning and gusty winds — the fourth such storm this month. The weather is expected to intensify on Tuesday, March 31. Kolkata could record a minimum of 25°C and a maximum of 32°C, while Hooghly is likely to remain in a similar range.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds reaching up to 60 kmph are likely at isolated places in the 'City of Joy'. The Met office has also flagged the possibility of hail in Hooghly and adjoining districts, which may impact standing crops and disrupt traffic.

Kolkata weather today Rain
Kolkata is expected to witness unstable weather on March 31, 2026, with rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong gusty winds. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 33°C, while the minimum may hover near 23°C. Wind speeds could reach up to 50–60 km/h, and there may be brief periods of reduced visibility.On April 1, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy, with chances of thunderstorms and lightning continuing. Temperatures will stay similar, with a maximum of around 33°C and a minimum of about 25°C. Kolkata is likely to see a minimum of 24°C and a maximum of 33°C with only isolated light rain, while Hooghly may experience brief showers before skies start clearing.
From April 2 onwards, weather conditions are likely to improve, with clear skies and a gradual rise in temperatures. The maximum temperature may increase to around 34°C on April 2, 35°C on April 3, and 36°C on April 4.
From April 2 to April 4, dry weather is set to prevail across Kolkata and Hooghly. Daytime temperatures are expected to climb gradually, with maximums touching 34°C to 35°C and minimums settling between 24°C and 26°C, bringing back typical early summer conditions. Kolkata and Hooghly are likely to remain largely dry with temperatures around 25°C and 35°C on April 5.
Overall, Kolkata will transition from stormy conditions at the end of March to hotter and more humid weather in early April, with rain chances reducing significantly after April 1.
