The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain for Thursday in South Bengal, including North 24 Parganas, which borders Kolkata. The Met Office has predicted thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 50–60 kmph are likely, bringing short-term relief from the prevailing heat.
Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and light to moderate rainfall have also been forecast in several districts, including Jhargram, West Midnapore, Birbhum, Murshidabad and East Burdwan.
The MeT office said certain weather conditions are expected to trigger a nor'wester spell on Thursday in Kolkata. The Met officials said both the mercury and the humidity level would dip once the nor'wester spell strikes city, ensuring a temporary respite from the hot and humid weather.
Kolkata weather today
On April 16, Kolkata is expected to witness a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorms. The minimum temperature is likely around 24°C, while the maximum may reach about 36°C, indicating warm and humid conditions. The weather department has also issued a warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40–50 km/h), which may bring brief relief from the heat but could cause temporary disruptions.On April 17, Kolkata is expected to have a partly cloudy sky with chances of light rain or thundershowers in some areas. Warm and humid conditions will continue, with temperatures hovering near 25°C to 35°C.
The city will likely experience a partly cloudy to mainly clear sky on April 18, with isolated thunderstorm activity possible in the evening. The weather will remain hot and uncomfortable due to humidity, the IMD said.
A mainly dry day with partly cloudy skies is expected on April 19 in the City of Joy. Heat and humidity will dominate, with daytime temperatures around 35–36°C.
The city may see a partly cloudy sky with slight chances of thundershowers in isolated areas. Conditions will remain hot and humid on April 20. Kolkata is expected to have a generally clear to partly cloudy sky on April 21, with no rainfall activity, according to the IMD. The weather will stay warm, humid, and slightly uncomfortable during the day.
