Earthquake in Kolkata triggers panic: Citizens run out of homes, offices; Bangladesh vs Ireland cricket match sees a brief halt

Kolkata Earthquake: Kolkata residents rushed out of homes and offices on Friday morning after mild tremors were felt around 10.08 AM, triggering a brief moment of panic across several pockets of the city. The shaking lasted only a few seconds, but it was strong enough for people to step outdoors as a precaution. No damage or injuries were reported.

Many residents said they felt a sudden jolt, followed by light vibrations that made doors, windows and furniture shake. Those inside high-rises and office towers evacuated briefly before returning once the tremors stopped. As per PTI, thousands of people were out of their homes as the tremors lasted for several seconds.

The India Meteorological Department of Kolkata later reported that a magnitude 5.7 earthquake had struck Bangladesh’s Narsingdi district at a depth of 10 km.
