Many residents said they felt a sudden jolt, followed by light vibrations that made doors, windows and furniture shake. Those inside high-rises and office towers evacuated briefly before returning once the tremors stopped. As per PTI, thousands of people were out of their homes as the tremors lasted for several seconds.
The India Meteorological Department of Kolkata later reported that a magnitude 5.7 earthquake had struck Bangladesh’s Narsingdi district at a depth of 10 km.
