A viral video shows a rickshaw driver waiting outside after dropping two women at their destination, only to realise that he had been fooled by them. The women had asked him to wait, saying they would return shortly, but instead made an exit from another gate to avoid paying around Rs 20–30. The video is now making the rounds on social media and has sparked a larger conversation about everyday honesty and civic responsibility.

Heartbroken and upset, the auto driver said, "Bhai yaar, ye log aise kyu karte hai samaj me ni aata hai.. (I don't understand why do people resort to such measures). He went on to show the meter, which read 38 and said two women assured him they would return shortly to pay the fare.

"I went and saw there was another gate on the other side. I asked the guard if two women had come here to which he replied yes. The watchman said the two ladies had come, and they left from the other gate. I did not say anything and came back and sat in the auto. The meter was continuously increasing," he said.

The auto driver said that if they had told him they didn't have the money, he would have still dropped them at their destination. "But I don't know what people get from doing this? Alag Khushi milti hai...kisi ka Rs 20-30 duba ke kisi ka acha ni hoga. Kisi ka bura krke kabhi acha ni hoga," the driver can be heard saying in the video.

What does the incident highlight?

While the amount may seem insignificant to some, for daily-wage earners like rickshaw drivers, every rupee contributes to their livelihood. The incident shows a growing lack of basic honesty in everyday situations. For many drivers, even small amounts matter, as it directly affects their daily earnings. What may seem like a minor saving for someone can mean a loss of trust and income for another. The driver not only lost a small portion of his income but also his trust in passengers.

"He is the same guy who other day was helping an old Muslim guy and did not take money from him. I don’t understand why people get so cheap," another netizen commented.
