CEO gifts Kia Sonnet cars to employees as Diwali bonus.
At a time when layoffs and cost-cutting measures are affecting employees across companies, a Chandigarh-based business owner is drawing attention for rewarding his staff with brand-new cars. MK Bhatia, founder and chairman of MITS Group of Companies, recently gifted four Kia Sonet sub-compact SUVs to loyal, high-performing employees of Mits Healthcare Pvt Ltd, according to videos shared by the company on Instagram.

The gesture stands out at a time when some employees receive modest festive gifts, such as Soan papdi, while others face uncertainty over their jobs. Bhatia’s company has reportedly made car gifting an annual reward for employees who demonstrate long-term loyalty and strong performance.

Four employees receive brand-new Kia Sonet SUVs

A video shared on the company’s Instagram page captures the delivery ceremony at a Kia dealership. Bhatia arrives at the venue in a BMW 3 Series Grand Limousine, while four SUVs stand covered in black cloth ahead of the reveal.

As drums play, Bhatia joins the celebrations and applauds as the employees unveil their vehicles one by one. The dealership also arranges four cakes for a cake-cutting ceremony, after which the recipients and their colleagues celebrate together.

How the company’s employee car scheme works

In another video circulating online, employees who received the Kia Sonets explain how the scheme operates. One recipient says he has worked at Mits Healthcare for five years and was selected for a car this year.

According to his account, the company pays 30% of the vehicle’s cost as a down payment, while the monthly equated instalment (EMI) is added to the employee’s salary for as long as the employee remains with the company. The cars are registered in the employees’ names rather than under the company’s ownership.

Another employee says the scheme rewards people who have stayed with the company for more than five years. Bhatia has also introduced an opportunity for newer employees to receive a vehicle through a lucky draw.

According to the employee, 36 new employees have entered the draw for a fifth Kia Sonet. The selected winner is expected to receive the vehicle without paying EMIs or facing additional hidden costs.

Company previously gifted 51 cars during Diwali

The latest car deliveries are not the first such initiative by Bhatia. In October last year, he reportedly gifted 51 vehicles to top-performing employees during Diwali. The vehicles included popular models such as the Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Punch.

The company also gifted six Nissan Magnite sub-compact SUVs to employees during Christmas last year, with Bhatia personally handing over the keys.

In another video shared last year, Bhatia said employees who received cars were given Rs 2,500 every month towards personal fuel expenses. Employees using their vehicles for official work were paid separately for the fuel they consumed on company duties.

Bhatia also explained that the company had previously purchased vehicles in its own name but later began registering them directly under employees’ names.

Who is MK Bhatia?

Bhatia is the founder and chairman of the MITS Group of Companies, which has interests in pharmaceuticals, digital entertainment, e-commerce and other businesses.

His entrepreneurial journey reportedly faced a major setback in 2002, when he went bankrupt following the failure of his medical shop business. He later founded the MITS Group in 2015 and now oversees 12 companies employing hundreds of people.

The employee car scheme has brought renewed attention to the company’s approach to recognising staff loyalty, with the latest SUV handovers adding to its previous festive car-gifting initiatives.
