Know everything about Kharmas 2022, from the start and end date to significance, religious beliefs, and the dos and don’ts during this inauspicious month.

Kharmas Date and Time
Kharmas, also known as Malmas, is when the Sun’s movement slows down. In Hinduism, this period is inauspicious for carrying out holy tasks, such as marriage, housewarming, construction of a new residence, engagement, and shaving. As per astrology, Dhanu Sankranti is when the Sun enters Sagittarius, which is considered the start of the month of Kharmas. It ends with the Sun transiting in Capricorn, which is called Makar Sankranti. This year, Kharmas starts at 10:11 am on December 16 and ends at 8:57 pm on January 14.
Kharmas Dos and Don’ts
People generally avoid tying the knot during Kharmas, believing that it may result in an unhealthy and sad marriage devoid of prosperity and joy. Furthermore, celebrations such as Tonsuring and Janeu are also avoided during this month. Many individuals also do not consume alcohol and non-vegetarian food during Kharmas. However, this month is the perfect time for people with Pitra Dosh in their Kundli. Such individuals can conduct Brahmin Bhoj on no-moon days and give them clothes and food. Delivering water to the Sun, taking holy baths, and chanting mantras are a few things people do during Kharmas.
