Kerala Tragedy: Two teenage girls undergoing sports training found hanging inside Sports Authority of India hostel, police launch probe

Two teenage girls undergoing sports training at a Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel in Kerala were found dead in their room on Thursday, police officials confirmed.

According to news agency PTI, the deceased have been identified as Sandra (17) from Kozhikode district and Vyshnavi (15) from Thiruvananthapuram district.

Police said Sandra was an athletics trainee pursuing Plus Two studies, while Vyshnavi was a kabaddi player and a Class 10 student.

Incident Discovered During Morning Training Hours

The incident came to light around 5 am when fellow hostel residents noticed that the two girls had not turned up for their scheduled morning training session.

"When repeated knocks on the door went unanswered, hostel authorities broke open the door and found both girls hanging from ceiling fans in the room," police said.

Police Probe Underway

Officials said Vyshnavi was officially allotted a different room but had stayed overnight in Sandra’s room on Wednesday. Both girls were reportedly seen by other hostel inmates early in the morning, police added.

"The reason for the deaths is yet to be ascertained and no suicide note has been recovered from the room," police officials said.

Police will record statements from other trainees at the hostel, along with their coaches and family members, an official said.

The bodies will be handed over to the families after post-mortem examinations are completed, police added.
