Widespread rains expected
The IMD has forecast widespread rain across Kerala for the next five days. This is due to westerly winds over the state and a cyclonic circulation over northern Karnataka. According to officials, several parts of Kerala will experience heavy rainfall and strong winds from June 14 to 17.Fishermen warned
The IMD has also advised fishermen to avoid venturing out to sea along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coast between Friday and June 17. Strong winds and rough weather are expected along the coastline during this period.
Weather alerts issued
The IMD has issued:- Orange alert in 10 districts for Friday
- Yellow alert in 4 districts for Friday
- Red alert in 2 districts for Saturday
- Orange alert in 9 districts for Saturday
- Yellow alert in 2 districts for Saturday
Early monsoon caused damage
The monsoon had hit Kerala early this year, on May 24, bringing heavy rains that caused widespread damage. Roads and low-lying areas were flooded, and trees and power poles were uprooted in many regions.
