Kerala school holidays and examinations: Check full schedule for 2025–26 academic year

Thiruvananthapuram: The Education Department has released the academic calendar for the 2025–26 academic year, detailing exam schedules and holidays for schools across Kerala.

The Onam examinations in state-run schools are scheduled to be held from August 20 to August 27. After the conclusion of the first term exams, schools will close for the Onam holidays on August 29 and reopen on September 8.

Christmas Exams and HolidaysThe Christmas examinations will be held from December 11 to December 18. Schools will break for the holidays on December 19 and reopen on December 29, following a 10-day vacation.


Plus Two Practical and Model Exams
The Plus Two practical examinations are scheduled to begin on January 22, 2026.
The model examinations for both Plus One and Plus Two will be conducted from February 16 to 23.

Annual Exams and Summer Vacation
Annual examinations for all classes will take place from March 2 to March 30. Schools will close for the summer vacation starting March 31.

Total Academic Days for 2025–26
As per the academic calendar released:

• Lower Primary section will have 198 academic days
• Upper Primary section will have 200 academic days
• High Schools will operate for 204 academic days

Schools impacted due to Bharat Bandh

Kerala witnessed a near-total shutdown on Wednesday as a result of the 24-hour nationwide general strike called by trade unions to protest the Centre's "anti-labour" policies, which brought daily life to a standstill.

Shops, offices and schools remained shut, while public vehicles stayed off the roads, leaving the streets deserted in the state.

Cutting across cities, towns and villages, the CPI(M)-ruled southern state experienced a complete shutdown after the strike began Tuesday midnight.

Only private vehicles could be seen plying on the state roads, and several people were stranded in bus stands and railway stations in many places.

Police personnel came to their rescue in several areas and ferried them in official vehicles to their respective destinations, including hospitals.

Protesters, belonging to various trade unions, took out marches raising slogans against the union government across the state and stopped buses and autos that attempted to operate.
