Kerala: Elephant turns aggressive at event in Malappuram, swings man in air with trunk; Watch viral video

In a viral video from Puthiyangadi annual 'nercha' at the BP Angadi annual festival at a mosque in Kerala's Malappuram district late on Tuesday night, one of the five elephants turned violent and picked up a man with its trunk, swung him wildly and threw him at a distance.

The elephant also injured 17 others as it ran uncontrollably. People at that event are seen running in panic, aimlessly to escape the elephant.



Footage from the event shows five elephants, decorated with golden plates, parading through the crowd as people tried to capture the moment on their cameras.

However, one elephant, named Pakkathu Sreekuttan, suddenly became agitated. Despite Mahout's efforts to regain control, the elephant charged into the crowd, causing widespread panic.

The injured man was reportedly admitted to MIMS Hospital with serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in Kotakkal.


The majority of the injuries were caused by a stampede-like situation as people scrambled to find safety.

The incident occurred in Tirur, where hundreds had gathered to witness the spectacle. The event, held in memory of Aloor Valiya Pookunjikoya Thangal, a revered Muslim saint from the Malabar region, transforms the entire town of Pattambi into a vibrant spectacle of colors, lights, and sounds.

The festival is a significant cultural and religious event that draws thousands of devotees and visitors from various parts of the state.
