Kerala college students share 'unimaginable' ragging horror, say ‘stripped naked, tortured with dumbbells’

Kottayam: Five third-year nursing students from the Government Nursing College have been arrested for allegedly ragging first-year students for the past three months, as per TOI.

Three first-year students filed a complaint stating that the ragging began in November and involved severe physical and mental abuse. They claimed they were forced to strip naked and were tortured using dumbbells meant for weightlifting.

According to the complaint, the seniors used compasses and similar sharp objects to wound them before applying lotion to the injuries. The juniors were also forced to have cream smeared on their faces, heads, and mouths.


Apart from physical abuse, the accused allegedly demanded money from the juniors every Sunday to buy alcohol. The victims also said they were frequently assaulted.

Unable to endure the harassment any longer, three students approached the Kottayam Gandhinagar police. Based on their complaint, five third-year students were arrested. As per TOI, the investigation is ongoing.
