Karwa Chauth 2025: Tips for Observing Karva Chauth Fast
The festival begins with Sargi, a nourishing pre-dawn meal that typically includes fruits, nuts, milk, and sweets. After Sargi, women cleanse themselves, wear traditional attire, and mentally prepare to observe the fast.Throughout the day, women maintain purity in thoughts and actions, reciting mantras and avoiding heavy chores. In special cases such as pregnancy, illness, or menstruation, partial fasts or leniencies are permitted.
In the evening, the Karwa Chauth Puja is performed with a thali of essential items, including:
- Karwa (earthen or metal pot)
- Diya (lamp), incense, flowers, rice, milk, ghee, sweets
- Sieve (channi) for moon viewing
- Pictures or idols of Shiva, Parvati, and Karwa Mata
- Red or yellow cloths, bangles, sindoor, and mehndi
- Karwa Chauth Katha and Puja Vidhi
The legend of Veeravati is central to the festival. Veeravati, observing her first Karwa Chauth fast, ended it prematurely due to a trick by her brothers, only to learn of her husband’s death. Her devotion and strict observance of the fast in the following year ultimately brought him back to life. This story is narrated during the puja to inspire faith and devotion.
