KARWAR: In a tragic turn of events in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district, a six-year-old boy with hearing and speech impairments lost his life after being thrown into a canal. The incident, which occurred late on Saturday in Halamadi village, approximately 460 km from Bengaluru, has left the community shocked and grieving.

The boy, named Vinod, was at the centre of a dispute between his parents, Savitri and Ravi Kumar. Allegedly, arguments between the couple over their son's disabilities escalated, leading to a heartbreaking outcome.

Vinod's body was discovered with severe injuries and bite marks, indicating that he had been attacked by a crocodile in the canal. His right hand was partially bitten off by the reptile, further adding to the tragedy.

Police swiftly took action and arrested Savitri on Monday, charging her with murder for allegedly throwing Vinod into the canal. Following her arrest, Savitri was brought before a court and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
