Karnataka auto-rickshaw fare hike: Dakshina Kannada revises rates from September 1, check new fare structure

Auto-rickshaw fares in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district have been revised with effect from September 1, with the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) setting the minimum fare at Rs 40 for the first 1.5 km. The updated fare structure was approved by the Dakshina Kannada RTA under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Darshan HV. The revised rates will apply to auto-rickshaw services operating across the district.

Dakshina Kannada Auto Fare Revised
As per the new fare structure, passengers will have to pay a minimum of Rs 40 for the first 1.5 km. The minimum fare will cover up to three passengers travelling in the auto-rickshaw. Beyond the initial 1.5 km, passengers will be charged Rs 20 for every additional kilometre.


New Waiting Charges For Auto-Rickshaws
The RTA has also introduced revised waiting charges. Passengers will not have to pay anything for the first 10 minutes of waiting. After the free waiting period, a charge of Rs 5 will apply for every additional 15 minutes or part thereof.

Luggage Charges Under Revised Fare Structure
The authority has also clarified the charges applicable to luggage. Passengers carrying luggage weighing up to 20 kg will not have to pay an additional fee, provided one passenger is travelling per trip. For luggage weighing more than 20 kg, passengers will be charged Rs 5 for every additional 20 kg or fraction thereof.

Night Auto Fare To Be 1.5 Times Normal Rate
The revised fare structure also includes separate charges for journeys made during night hours. Between 10 pm and 5 am, passengers will have to pay 1.5 times the normal meter fare.

Fare Revision Comes Amid Rising Operating Costs
The revised rates come at a time when auto-rickshaw and taxi operators in different parts of India have been raising concerns about increasing operating expenses.

The revised rates are expected to establish a more uniform fare structure for auto-rickshaw passengers and operators across Dakshina Kannada.
