Karan Johar lives in 8,000-square-foot Pali Hill duplex in Mumbai worth Rs 32 crore designed by Gauri Khan that has a wraparound terrace, a bedroom-turned-closet, a glam room and a spacious living area

Karan Johar’s home in Bandra’s Pali Hill was renovated by designer Gauri Khan, who transformed the approximately 5,500-square-foot penthouse extension into a functional family space. The home, which features a wraparound terrace, was used by Johar, his mother Hiroo and his twins Roohi and Yash during the Covid-19 lockdown.

A grand living room with a statement chandelier

Karan Johar has offered glimpses of his home in several videos, including an interaction with Asian Paints. His living room features a collection of plush sofas, mostly in different shades of beige. To break the neutral palette, Johar added green and blue sofas, giving the space a pop of colour.


A grand chandelier takes centre stage, adding to the room’s luxurious yet inviting atmosphere. The living area opens into a spacious dining space, where a large wood-and-marble dining table doubles up as a meeting spot. Johar has revealed that several professional discussions take place around the table. In fact, he, Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh discussed Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani at the same spot.

Gauri Khan designed the entire apartment

The filmmaker has credited his close friend Gauri Khan with designing the interiors of his home. Interestingly, Johar revealed that he had not seen the apartment before she completed the interiors.

“I have no contribution to it. This is Gauri Khan’s baby. The night we called really close friends for dinner was the night I saw the house for the first time, so when I was showing it, I was also seeing it,” he told Architectural Digest India.

An entire bedroom turned into a luxury closet

One of the most striking features of Johar’s home is his enormous wardrobe. The filmmaker, known for his love of luxury fashion and brands such as Balenciaga, Gucci and Prada, has converted an entire bedroom into a dedicated closet.

The expansive space houses his collection of designer jackets, shoes, bags and accessories. His bedroom itself has a more relaxed feel, with a cosy bed, while a separate glam room features a large illuminated mirror and a vintage-style chair reminiscent of classic Hollywood dressing rooms.

A deck that feels like an Amazonian jungle

Johar’s home also features a spacious deck filled with greenery. Furnished with white and blue patio furniture, the outdoor space is surrounded by tall plants, creating a lush and secluded atmosphere.

Describing the space, Johar said it felt like “some kind of Amazonian jungle” with greenery coming at him from every direction.

The lower level doubles up as his office

In an episode of Farah Khan’s YouTube vlog, Johar also offered a glimpse of the lower level of his duplex apartment, which functions as his office.

The space features a bar, large leather sofas and an area where the filmmaker listens to scripts and holds meetings. Connecting the two levels is a wooden staircase with a glass railing and brass-toned details, adding another sophisticated touch to the interiors.

Johar’s sprawling 8,000-square-foot apartment is located on Carter Road in Bandra, Mumbai. According to MagicBricks, the property is estimated to be worth around Rs 30-32 crore, with an approximate rate of Rs 40,000 per square foot. Johar purchased the apartment in 2010.

Karan Johar hosts Prince William

Karan Johar will become the first Indian to host The Earthshot Prize Awards Night when the global environmental ceremony is held in Mumbai on November 17, 2026. Karan Johar announces new project

Filmmaker Karan Johar has announced a new project based on Rameshwar Nath Kao, the founding chief of R&AW, India’s external intelligence agency. The announcement was made on social media to mark the agency’s 58th anniversary.

Johar described Kao as a figure who worked “in the shadows” while laying the foundation for R&AW and said the upcoming film will focus on the organisation’s first mission.

The film is based on journalist and strategic affairs analyst Nitin Gokhale’s 2019 book R.N. Kao: Gentleman Spymaster. The book traces Kao’s career and his role in the early years of India’s external intelligence apparatus, offering an account of how R&AW was established and evolved under its first chief.
