Nandita Das, a filmmaker-actor, turned to social media to make the major announcement about her forthcoming film “Zwigato”, which stars comic legend Kapil Sharma in the main role.

Following screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Busan International Film Festival, and the Kerala International Film Festival, Zwigato, is due to hit theatres shortly. Kapil Sharma also took to Instagram to publish a motion poster for the film, in which he wrote, “The most anticipated order of the year has arrived! Zwigato”.

The film will be released on March 17, 2023. The film, sponsored by Applause Entertainment, is about an ex-factory floor manager (Kapil) who loses his job during the pandemic. The lead actors in “Zwigato” are Kapil Sharma and Shahana Goswami. Zwigato is set in the beautiful city of Bhubaneswar and follows the narrative of a food delivery rider who struggles with the world of ratings and algorithms. His wife starts looking for various job prospects to support the family's income, both in dread and in enthusiasm about her newfound independence.


Written and directed by Nandita Das, this extremely relevant film digs into the lives of “regular people”. Nandita previously stated regarding the film, “Zwigato is completely finished! A narrative about emerging urban India that isn't only about the gig economy, but about everything we accept as normal. Sameer Nair was the ideal producing partner for this basic yet nuanced slice-of-life picture”.
