Kapil Sharma starrer 'Zwigato' mints Rs 1.05 crore at box office since its release

Kapil Sharma's 15-year-old legacy in the world of entertainment and India's comic scene speaks for itself. The story of a young man from Amritsar making it big in Mumbai is an inspiration to many. But it has not always been "all good" for the star as he often found himself surrounded by controversy. However, he always held his ground.

On his Netflix special - 'I Am Not Done Yet', Sharma opened up about his depression. For the longest, the 41-year-old was unaware of his own condition. "I didn't know I was depressed, I read it in the papers," the comedian had said. He had also revealed that he had once locked himself in his room with his retired police dog Zanjeer and only watched ‘Narcos’. When he sought professional help, even his therapist didn't believe that a person who was making the nation laugh, was ill.

Sharma has often spoken about his battle with anxiety and alcoholism. Just when his career was at its peak, it hit a snag due to his alcohol addiction. Shows cancelled, shoots missed - all these naturally led to wide speculation in 2017 that he was "cancelled" by the entertainment industry for good.

Sunil Grover was part of Sharma's team on his shows - 'Comedy Nights with Kapil' and 'The Kapil Sharma Show'. However, a fight between the two ruptured their rapport, prompting Grover to leave the show. There were reports of an inebriated Sharma hitting out at Grover on a flight which provoked the latter’s exit and airing his PoV on Twitter. Time has passed but things are still not what they once were.

On the same Netflix special, Sharma had talked about addressing a tweet to PM Narendra Modi and the BMC in an intoxicated state. It spiralled, and he had to escape to the Maldives to duck the media frenzy. In 2016, Sharma had sarcastically tweeted about the "achhe din", saying that despite paying Rs 15 crore income tax for five years, he still had to pay a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to BMC for constructing his office. The tweets went out at 6 am on September 9, 2016, and Sharma woke up to media frenzy outside his home.

There were reports that when Salman Khan had chosen to promote his film on the newly-launched 'Comedy Nights Bachao', instead of Sharma's show, it didn't go down well with the comedian. Reportedly later when Sharma was asked whom he'd prefer as a replacement for his show 'Comedy Nights with Kapil' between Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, the 41-year-old chose the former.

There were also reports of Sharma misbehaving with several women at a party after the International Marathi Film Festival Awards in 2015. However, the comedian denied the reports and had later posted a cryptic tweet which read: "I fall, I rise, I make mistakes, I live, I learn, I've been hurt but I am alive. i am human, I am not perfect but I am thankful."

During one of the shoots, Sharma apparently threw a fit at Priyanka Chopra who had reportedly made him wait for three hours during an award function. According to reports, when PeeCee finally walked in and was still not ready, Sharma immediately unplugged his earpiece and threw it on the ground as he mumbled that "This is the problem with the ladies ... madam is still not ready."

Earlier this year in February, there were reports of a rift between Akshay Kumar and comedian Kapil Sharma. It was speculated that Kumar was not too happy with Sharma and had refused to appear on his show to promote his upcoming film after a video clip of him indirectly talking about PM Modi on the show got leaked. However, Sharma later cleared the air saying all was good between his "brother" Kumar and there was no conflict.
