Actress Rukmini Vasanth has taken on a commanding new role in Kantara Chapter 1, portraying Kankavati, a formidable 4th-century warrior princess. She shared insights with IANS on the intense physical and emotional preparation she underwent to bring the character vividly to life on screen.

How Rukmini Vasanth Prepared for a 4th-Century Princess Role

Rukmini revealed that the process of embodying a princess was unlike any role she had taken up before. “It all begins with body language. Whether you are playing a modern student or a 4th-century royal, how you hold yourself defines the character,” she explained.

To perfect this, she participated in workshops with the film’s writers before the shoot. “We focused on how a princess walks, looks at people, and carries herself. Cracking that essence was very important,” she added.

Kantara Chapter 1: Sword Fighting, Horse Riding, and More Training

The role demanded more than elegance, it required strength and agility. Rukmini underwent horse-riding and sword-fighting lessons to sharpen her warrior skills. “These sessions were crucial to get into the active body language of a warrior. It’s not just about standing gracefully but moving with purpose,” she said.

The training also included traditional dance forms rooted in the era, giving her movements an authentic touch.

Emotional and Mental Preparation for Kankavati in Kantara Chapter 1

Beyond the physical, Rukmini focused deeply on the emotional journey of Kankavati. “Every scene has its own context, and the emotional prep is just as important as the physical. Whether it was a battle moment or an intimate dialogue, I had to step into her world fully,” she noted.
