Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal removed Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Dinesh Chandra Tripathi and suspended Sachendi Station House Officer Vikram Singh over lapses and misrepresentation of facts in the case.
Kanpur Rape Case: Incident Details
The victim, a class 7 dropout, was reportedly abducted at around 10 pm on Monday in a Mahindra Scorpio. She was taken to a remote spot near a railway track, where she was allegedly assaulted for nearly two hours before being left unconscious outside her home.Based on her statement, Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar Maurya and YouTuber Shivbaran Yadav were named in the FIR. Yadav has been arrested, while police have formed four teams to apprehend the absconding SI. The SUV used in the crime, registered in Maurya’s name, has been seized.
Investigations revealed that Maurya was in Sachendi at the time of the incident, despite being officially posted at Bithoor Police Station.
The victim’s family has accused local police of a cover-up, claiming they were initially turned away when they mentioned police involvement.
Her brother added that her mobile phone was seized and she was prevented from returning home until her court statement was recorded.
Kanpur Gang-rape Case: Police Action
SHO Vikram Singh has been suspended for failing to invoke the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act during the initial stages and for allegedly misrepresenting facts in case records. Deenanath Mishra has been appointed in charge of Sachendi Police Station, while Additional DCP (West) Kapil Dev Singh now leads the investigation.The case has sparked widespread outrage. Former CPI(M) MP Subhashini Ali met the police commissioner to condemn the “widespread impunity” in crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh.
Commissioner Raghubir Lal assured the public, saying, “The investigation is being conducted with complete transparency, and strict action will be taken against all guilty parties.”
