Job of your dreams? Mumbai CEO wants a doom-scroller who scrolls Instagram at least 6 hrs a day & binges Reddit’s celeb gossip
Monk Entertainment is seeking a professional "doom-scroller" to stay updated on the latest trends and creators. The ideal candidate should spend at least six hours daily on social media, be knowledgeable about creator culture, and fluent in Hindi ...

Viraj Sheth, co-founder and CEO of Monk Entertainment, has announced that the company is officially on the hunt for a professional doom-scroller. And yes, it’s precisely what it sounds like.
What exactly is a doom-scroller?
The term “doom-scrolling” usually refers to the habit of endlessly refreshing feeds, soaking up news, gossip, and general online chaos, often to the detriment of one’s mental health. But at Monk Entertainment, this habit has been rebranded into a professional role.According to Sheth’s post on LinkedIn and Instagram Stories, the new hire will essentially “doom-scroll and be aware about the latest in the creator world.” In short: stay plugged into everything that’s trending, buzzing, or brewing online.
The unusual job requirements
Unlike traditional job listings that call for degrees and years of work experience, this vacancy has its own peculiar checklist. The ideal candidate must:- Prove they spend at least six hours a day on Instagram and YouTube, with screenshots as evidence.
- Be “obsessed with creators and creator culture.”
- Know every new content creator “on the block.”
- Religiously consume Reddit’s InstaCelebsGossip subreddit, treating it like the morning paper.
- Be fluent in both Hindi and English.
- Have no problem using Excel (because, of course, spreadsheets find their way into everything).
The internet reacts
As you might imagine, the post triggered a wave of amused reactions online.“Is 19 hours ok or am I overqualified?” joked one LinkedIn user.
“Once upon a time, being ‘addicted to social media’ was a red flag. Now, it’s a career path,” another quipped.
How to apply
Applications are open via careers@monk-e.in, with “doomscroller” as the subject line. And here’s the catch, Sheth insists that applicants show some humour and personality in their emails, explicitly stating: “Do not use ChatGPT for it.”The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
