'Jholewala fakir': Mahua Moitra tweets in war of barbs over handbag

Mahua Moitra's handbag is now the subject of a war of barbs between the BJP camp and the firebrand TMC MP.

It started during the discussion in Parliament on price rise on Monday. TMC's Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar was attacking the government over the issue, when Moitra sitting next to her was seen picking up her handbag from the seat and slide it under the bench.

A 12-second video of this was shared by BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Twitter, who wrote: "Marie Antoinette Mahau Moitra hiding her expensive bag during a discussion on price rise- hypocrisy has a face & its this! A party that believes in TMC- Too Much Corruption discusses price rise after not cutting VAT & alliance with UPA that gave run away inflation of 10% plus."


Other users too shared it suggesting that Moitra was trying to hide her "expensive" "Louis Vuitton" bag because it was, well, inappropriate to the issue being discussed.

Moitra hit back on Tuesday with a collage of her pictures at the Parliament building- taken over three years - all featuring her handbag.

"Jholewala fakir in Parliament since 2019, she said, "Jhola leke aye the… jhola leke chal padenge…." Came with a bag, will leave with a big. It was apparently meant as a swipe at PM Narendra Modi's famous lines at a speech in Moradabad in December 2016.
