As the JEE Main 2026 session 2 examination begins tomorrow, lakhs of students across the country will sit for one of India’s most competitive entrance tests. The exam serves as a gateway to premier institutes such as IITs, NITs and IIITs, making strategic preparation crucial for success.

Follow admit card instructions and plan travel

Candidates should carefully read all instructions mentioned on their admit card to avoid last-minute confusion. It is advisable to leave for the examination centre well in advance with a buffer margin to ensure a stress-free arrival. Reaching late can lead to unnecessary panic or, in the worst case, denial of entry at the centre.

Maintain health and reduce stress

Along with academic preparation, maintaining physical and mental well-being is essential. A balanced diet, adequate sleep and stress management practices such as yoga or meditation can help improve focus and performance during the exam.

Manage time effectively during the exam

Time management remains a major challenge for many candidates. Students are advised to attempt easier questions first, avoid spending more than one to two minutes on a single question, and reserve the last few minutes for revision.

Understand the exam pattern

Candidates are advised to be fully aware of the exam structure before attempting the paper. JEE Main consists of three subjects, physics, chemistry and mathematics, with a total of 90 questions, out of which 75 need to be attempted. The paper carries 300 marks, with four marks awarded for each correct answer and one mark deducted for every incorrect response.

Follow a realistic study plan

Experts suggest that a balanced and consistent study schedule is key. Instead of long, exhausting hours, candidates should divide their day into focused study slots of two to three hours, ensuring equal attention to all three subjects along with regular revision and practice.

Focus on NCERT fundamentals

NCERT textbooks of classes 11 and 12 remain the foundation for JEE Main preparation. A significant number of questions, especially in chemistry, are directly based on NCERT concepts. Once fundamentals are clear, students can refer to advanced books for deeper understanding.

Practice previous year papers

Solving past question papers helps candidates understand the exam pattern, identify frequently asked topics and improve time management. Experts recommend practising at least the last 10 years of JEE Main papers.

Take mock tests regularly

Mock tests play a critical role in assessing preparation levels. They help simulate real exam conditions, improve speed and accuracy, and allow candidates to analyse mistakes and work on weak areas.

Revise consistently

Regular revision ensures better retention of concepts. Candidates should revise formulas and key notes daily and follow a weekly revision plan to stay on track.
