Jealous boyfriend turns cyber villain: How a petty feud over a girl dragged Delhi & Bengaluru police into terror panic
A personal grudge between two young men escalated into a national security alarm, involving the Delhi and Bengaluru Police Commissioners. A BCA student allegedly orchestrated a cyber threat campaign, using spoofed emails and fake complaints to fra...

According to TOI, the Delhi crime branch has cracked a case where the motive was painfully old, but the method was disturbingly modern.
What Was the Cyber Threat to Delhi and Bengaluru Police?
The incident first surfaced on 7 December, when the Delhi Police Commissioner received a chilling email invoking the name of a banned outfit and demanding extortion money. Oddly, the email was also CC’d to another account, raising suspicion.Special CP Devesh Srivastava immediately formed a team to trace the sender, treating the threat as a serious security issue. But what they eventually uncovered was something no one expected.
How a Love Rival Became the Target
Police traced the mobile number linked to the threatening email to Mohit, a 23-year-old man from Gurgaon. When officers reached his house, they didn’t find a cyber-terror mastermind, just a confused victim overwhelmed by:- International spam calls
- Fake payment QR codes
- Dozens of threatening emails
- Spoofed accounts that looked exactly like his own
Why the Jealousy Motive Became the Turning Point
As per TOI, Mohit told investigators about a past interaction with a girl that had escalated into a confrontation with her “boyfriend”. That boyfriend was Abhay Shee, a 22-year-old BCA student and freelance web developer from south Delhi’s Saidulajab. This detail flipped the investigation.
Police soon arrested Abhay, who allegedly confessed to crafting the entire plot to destroy Mohit’s life and reputation.
How the Cyber Plot Was Created
Investigators say Abhay:- Created multiple fake and spoofed email IDs
- Used VPNs to mask his location
- Fabricated association with banned organisations
- Sent extortion emails to Delhi and Bengaluru top cops
- Filed fake cyber complaints in Mohit’s name
- Redirected extortion money demands to Mohit’s bank account
Police have also recovered the personal mobile phone Abhay used for the scheme.
The Delhi crime branch has booked Abhay under relevant sections, and the case stands as a sharp reminder of how dangerous personal vendettas can become in the age of anonymous emails, spoofed identities, and VPN-driven deception.
