Jay Singh Rathore who allegedly raise Rs 1.5 lakh using fake medical documents for sister's eye treatment arrested

Jai Singh Rathore, the man behind running a fraudulent fundraising campaign on X, which initially attracted sympathy and financial support from people online, has been arrested, Agra Police said on Friday.

The accused, Ajayveer Singh alias Jay Singh Rathore, allegedly collected around Rs 1.5 lakh by claiming that his 12-year-old sister was seriously ill and required treatment for an eye condition. Police said he allegedly created forged medical documents, appealed to people for financial assistance and collected money through crowdfunding.

What Agra Police Said

In a Hindi post on X, Agra Police said: “A complaint was received regarding the individual named Ajayveer Singh alias Jai Singh Rathore, who, through social media, falsely claimed that his 12-year-old sister was suffering from a disease like ‘Glaucoma’/‘Vitreous Hemorrhage,’ prepared forged documents in the name of treatment for her eyes, played with the emotions of the general public, and improperly obtained funds (Crowd Funding) from people.”


The police further said: “The Bah Police Station immediately took cognizance of the said complaint and, based on the received written report, registered a case against the concerned individual under relevant sections, arrested the accused, and further legal proceedings are underway.”

Who Is Jay Singh Rathore?

There is currently no indication that Jay Singh Rathore is a celebrity, businessman or otherwise a prominent public figure. He came to attention on X after sharing an appeal claiming that his 12-year-old sister required urgent treatment for an eye-related condition.

According to reports, the fundraising post claimed that the family had already spent more than Rs 2.5 lakh on her treatment and needed additional financial help for surgery.

Appeal Received Donations From Strangers Online

The appeal reportedly received significant attention from people on social media, with strangers contributing money to help the family.

Rathore later claimed that more than Rs 1.5 lakh had been raised and asked people to stop making further donations. However, questions were subsequently raised about the authenticity of the medical documents shared as part of the appeal.

Shroff Eye Centre Issues Warning

Shroff Eye Centre, which was named in the fundraising appeal, later issued a public warning regarding the matter.

The hospital said it had learned that someone had allegedly created a fake patient record, prescription and treatment estimate using its letterheads. These documents were reportedly being used to approach NGOs and individuals seeking financial assistance.

The hospital urged members of the public to remain cautious and verify medical and fundraising claims before making donations.
