Janitor richer than CEO! Employee's post on how the cleaner ended up with nearly Rs 7 crore wealth double of their boss stuns internet
A story shared on X contrasts a high-earning executive's reported debts with a cleaner's decades-long approach to saving and investing. The account says rental income from two apartments, a debt-free home and investments helped the 63-year-old pre...

According to the post, the contrast became apparent shortly before the janitor, identified as Antonio, retired after nearly three decades of cleaning the same offices. Although the company's CEO earned around €180,000 annually and owned expensive vehicles and properties, the janitor had paid off his home, owned two rental apartments and invested his savings over more than 20 years.

How the janitor built his wealth over decades
Antonio, 63, had worked as an office cleaner for nearly 30 years, the post claimed. He reportedly arrived at work at 6 am in an old Renault Clio, brought coffee from home and carried his meals in a container rather than spending money at vending machines. The post contrasted his lifestyle with that of the company's CEO, who reportedly drove a €90,000(Rs 95.82 lakh) BMW, wore tailored suits, owned a large chalet and took holidays at five-star hotels. His annual salary was said to be approximately €180,000(Rs 1.91 crore).
The story took an unexpected turn when the CEO showed colleagues photographs of a newly acquired holiday home and jokingly asked Antonio when he would be able to afford a similar property.
Antonio reportedly asked whether the property had been fully paid off. When the CEO acknowledged that he had financed it through a bank, the janitor pointed out that the house was not entirely his yet. The CEO laughed off the exchange and joked that Antonio might eventually afford such a property by saving money on coffee.
Rental income and investments contributed to his net worth
Three weeks later, Antonio announced his retirement. During a farewell gathering, colleagues asked what he planned to do next and whether his pension would cover his plans to spend time at the beach and travel with his wife. The properties reportedly generated around €1,300 a month in rental income before expenses and taxes. Antonio had also been investing part of his savings for more than two decades.
When colleagues asked about his total wealth, Antonio estimated that his three properties and investments were worth approximately €650,000. He reportedly had no outstanding bank debt.

CEO's net worth reportedly less than half of the janitor's
The post said the company's manager later learned about Antonio's property holdings and joked about how much wealth he had accumulated while working as a cleaner.During their conversation, Antonio asked the manager how long he had left on his home loan. The manager reportedly said he still had more than 20 years of repayments remaining, while Antonio said he had completed payments on his last property 11 years earlier.
Months later, the narrator said a conversation with the company's financial director revealed that the manager's net worth was approximately €300,000. Although he earned considerably more and owned an expensive primary residence and a mortgaged holiday property, his loans reduced the value of his net assets.
The comparison put Antonio's reported net worth at more than twice the manager's, despite the significant difference in their incomes and lifestyles.
Asked why he had continued working as a cleaner despite having accumulated substantial wealth, Antonio reportedly replied that having money and needing to show it off were two different things.
