Jana Nayagan may see Vijay's 'Thalapathy Vijay' title replaced by ' 'The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C Joseph Vijay'.'
Vijay's upcoming political action drama Jana Nayagan is expected to mark a major change in how the actor is introduced on screen, with reports suggesting the film will replace his long-standing 'Thalapathy' title with 'The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C Joseph Vijay' in its opening title card. The reported change reflects his transition from film star to elected political leader.

The speculation intensified after KVN Productions released a new poster announcing the film's censor clearance. Unlike Vijay's earlier films, which carried the credit 'Thalapathy Vijay', the poster referred to him as 'The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C Joseph Vijay', leading to reports that the same designation will appear in the film's opening credits.

A source quoted by Bollywood Hungama said Vijay's films have traditionally opened with the title card 'Thalapathy Vijay', but the makers are now expected to acknowledge his position as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister by using the new designation.

Film receives CBFC clearance

Jana Nayagan received an 'A' certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification on July 9. According to the CBFC's official records, the film has a certified runtime of 183.11 minutes. The certification cleared a significant hurdle after months of uncertainty over the film's theatrical release.

Reports suggest the film could release in cinemas on July 24, 2026, although KVN Productions has not officially confirmed the date.

Cast and production

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Nassar and Sunil in key roles. The film is also widely reported to be partially inspired by the 2023 Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari.

Piracy scare fails to dampen anticipation

The project faced a setback after an unauthorised print reportedly leaked online in April, raising concerns over its potential impact on the film's box office performance.

Despite the piracy incident, anticipation for the film remains high. With Vijay now serving as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Jana Nayagan widely expected to be his final film before fully focusing on politics, trade observers believe the film could register a strong opening across Tamil Nadu. The reported change to the opening title card is also expected to make his cinematic farewell more memorable.

Vijay became Tamil Nadu Chief Minister in May

Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026, after entering full-time politics. The Tamil Nadu government's official website currently identifies him as Honorable Chief Minister Thiru C. Joseph Vijay.
