James Gunn has wrapped up the treatment for his upcoming Superman sequel and revealed that production is now being scheduled.

“We’re scheduling it now,” Gunn told Collider. “I’m totally done with the treatment. My treatments are incredibly intense — 60 pages with dialogue and everything. Now I’m just turning that into a script, and we’re planning when to shoot. It’s going to be much sooner rather than later.”

The 2025 Superman film has been a massive success, earning $589 million worldwide and ranking as the seventh-highest-grossing movie of the year. It currently holds a 91% audience score and an 83% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Following the film’s success, reports suggest Gunn is developing multiple sequels within the expanding “Super-Family” franchise. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed during a recent earnings call that Gunn is preparing Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026), Clayface (2026), and the next Wonder Woman. Gunn is also expected to write and direct the next installment of the Super-Family, just as he did with Superman.

The DC Universe recently relaunched with David Corenswet’s Superman, which grossed $125 million domestically in its July opening, $315 million across North America, and $550 million worldwide, according to Variety.

Looking ahead, Gunn will begin work on The Batman II (2027), set for release on October 1, 2027. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has unveiled a 10-year DC roadmap that extends across films, TV, games, and consumer products. The lineup includes The Penguin (which earned 24 Emmy nominations and drew nearly 20 million viewers on HBO Max), a new season of Peacemaker, and Lanterns (2026).
