Streaming platform Amazon Prime Video has taken down its “James Bond” artwork following criticism from fans over edited images that removed the iconic spy’s guns. The posters, released last week on Prime Video UK’s website, showed 007 without any firearms, including the Walther PPK in films such as Dr. No and GoldenEye. In A View to a Kill, Roger Moore’s arms were digitally lengthened, cropping the gun from the frame.

Fan reactions and criticism

The edited artwork drew strong reactions online. Writer Scott McCrea described it as “nothing less than cultural vandalism,” according to entertainment outlet Deadline. Author John A Douglas posted the images on X with the caption, "They photoshopped all the guns out of the James Bond movie thumbnails. Just in case you still had hope for Amazon being in charge of the franchise."

British actor Rufus Jones also commented humorously on X, saying, "Amazon have removed the guns from their Bond posters, giving the tantalising impression that Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan think you’re a wanker."

Following the backlash, which coincided with James Bond Day on October 5, Amazon Prime Video replaced the controversial posters with standard film stills. The streamer has declined to comment on the edits, as reported by Deadline.
